New Braunfels reflects the diversity and history of the region itself. Located in the Texas Hill Country, New Braunfels is located between Austin and San Antonio, TX.
The town was established in 1845 by Prince Solms-Braunfels. a 33-year-old military officer from the German state of Hesse. Solms-Braunfels purchased a 1,265-acre tract for $1,112 and seven days later on Good Friday led settlers into the fertile land adjacent to Comal Springs.
The rich agricultural land is situated along the confluence of the Guardalupe and Comal Rivers. The immigrant community established cotton farms and local businesses–growing into a uniquely Texas blend of German, Hispanic and cowboy cultures.
The Gruene National Historic District on the border of New Braunfels offers a walk into the area’s German roots. Other local attractions include Natural Bridge Caverns, one of the largest cave systems in Texas.
The diverse Texas HIll country and its abundant supply of fresh water has turned New Braunfels into one of the fastest growing cities in the United States. It now supports a population of more than 100,000 residents.
